I made this while hosting a heavily modded Vintage Story server. Players were getting stutters when looking at a forge containing iron blooms, and long freezes around anvils. Press-and-hold chiseling was also behaving badly.

The fixes

The patch addresses the iron-bloom lag and repeated recipe lookups involved in determining an item’s metal material. It builds reusable lookup indexes after recipes load, routes material checks through SmithingPlus’s existing cache, and remembers items that do not have a recognized metal material.

Version 2.0.1 also fixes an added 1.5-second delay when chiseling by holding the left mouse button.

Why the chiseling fix mattered

Some players on my server have hand issues and rely on holding the button instead of clicking repeatedly. Restoring that behavior mattered to people who were already using it to play comfortably.

Using the patch

This is an add-on for SmithingPlus 1.9.0-rc.1. It needs the original SmithingPlus mod installed. It can be used alongside Anvil Performance Optimization, but neither patch requires the other.

The patch builds on the investigation in SmithingPlus PR #132. Once the original mod includes fixes for these issues, this hotfix should no longer be necessary.
