In Ostranauts, the oxygen canister you need might be inside a backpack inside another container. Finding a helmet, a charged battery, and the rest of your gear can take a while. You can pause the game while you search, so I wanted to turn that rummaging into a single action.

What it does

The mod adds Prepare For EVA to working EVA suits. It finds reachable gear, packs clothing that conflicts with the suit, equips the suit and helmet, and installs the components needed for an EVA. A CO2 filter is optional; the mod warns you if it cannot find one.

Clothing goes into the backpack you’re wearing. The backpack ends up in a free hand when possible, and overflow is dropped nearby. A configuration option keeps the older behavior of always dropping the backpack. Pressure suits are excluded.

How it works

The native JSON records define the action. The C# plugin uses BepInEx and Harmony to handle its availability and completion effects.

Equipment selection happens before changing what the character is wearing. The search checks local gear first, then reachable gear in the world when needed. It excludes items carried by other characters and components installed in other suits. After preparing the character, it checks the final equipment state.

I keep the gear search, preparation sequence, and inventory transfers in separate files. That makes it easier to follow where an item was chosen and what happened to it afterward.

  • EvaGear.cs handles gear selection and the readiness checks.
  • EvaPrep.cs coordinates the preparation sequence.
  • SuitSlots.cs handles clothing conflicts and backpack transfers.

The repository also includes build instructions, native data, and a manual checklist for mod behavior. BepInEx 5 is required to run the plugin.
